Nearly 16 years I've been a courier and I finally got a discount at Condor; £1 off a tub of Assos chamois cream on Tuesday when my arse was sore (and not in a good way). Things are looking up at last.
you do have to ask for discount in condor, or any other shop that offers a messengers discount. BTW will- you do realise that assos chamois cream is basically nappy rash cream at 4 times the price? fashion victim
Went to my local Two Wheels Good this morning to buy break cable and the 12 year old assistant was good enough to explain to me that once fitted the cable should be trimmed and that I should then fix a little metal thing on the end to stop it fraying. Last time I went to Bikefix the guy behind the counter took one look at me and walked out of the room without a word. What is it with bike shops? But I'm not bitter.

that would have been Alec i guess. he may be 12 but he was a puncture monkey there since he was 3 so if he says you ought to cut your cable you probably should. edit:
really, cut the cable? Never would have thought of that. Never seen the guy in there before actually. I guess he meant well. Fortunately I'm not bitter.
Well one thing I will say about every shop that's been mentioned here is that every one was more than happy to help out with sponsorship for us when told that London's Calling was gonna be a benefit for the LCEF. That's not bad at all.
Yeah and BLB sells and fits components that mysteriously break not long after. Anyone else had that? Condors always gives me a discount just have to ask.
Stop telling me I only have to ask! I HAVE asked. Nicely, with a smile and a twinkle in my eye. For 16 bloody years I've been asking. But anyway, the important thing is that I am not bitter.
No, Brixton is one of the few shops I like. BLB is Brick Lane Bikes. If my bike broke down in hackney i'd rather walk it to brixton then pop around the corner to Brick Lane.
i feel that way about mosquito. worst bike shop ever, imo.
once i got a flat right outside their door, and had nothing to fix it. i walked my bike all the way to stokey rather than give them a penny of my money.
well since i have slagged off condor and bikefix and two wheels good i may as well add mosquito; needed new spokes, the guy came out, measured them and when i got home I discovered the new ones he'd sold me were the wrong length. I repeat, he had MEASURED them and then given me ones that were THE WRONG LENGTH. took them back and didn't even get an apology. And don't even get me started on the bloke at Evans on Rathbone place who said some naff piece of bike kit was "gay". Luckily I am not the sort of person who is easily embittered.
Dude just go into condors and say you work at metro. I know you are selling yourself but they will give you a courier metro discount. We also get 10% off at BP petrol, virgin flights to new york and tesco's. This is controversial but it appears that lurkette just spat on buff...
