We've all worked with controllers who we'd like to f*cking strangle but who's been the best you've worked with?Who's been the easiest to get along with?So what if a controller has a vast knowlegde of our city,so f*ck if they know the phonetic alphabet any chimpanzee can learn that.My idea of a good controller is someone who has respect for the people they deal with and who has a laugh and generally makes the day roll along more easily.I'm surprised I have'nt knocked out some of the pricks I've rode for but here's my favorite top three:
    Warren @ Metro
    Dave Reilly @ Metro
    Alex Newland @ Metro

    What's yours?

I've only worked for one company, but Graham @ Churchills is a wikkid controller. He usually does the vans, but more recently he's been doing the bikes most days and his style is 'work hard but have as much of a laugh as possible while doing it'. Always a pleasure, never a chore. Also the only controller to call us by our real names, instead of just our numbers. And can have a laugh on Facebook.

yeh but i don't think a real controller will ever be able to compare with one that doesn't actually exist.

without doubt, jon- charlie 09 currently a rider at addy lee. scary good, possibly 'cos he persuades the rest of the control room into handing over their jobs to his circuit. a good guy to have in your corner.

lawrence and bill at reuters (rip) are both fucking good.

I never worked for, only with, Bill Butler but he was as good as any. Unrufflable, clear and concise.

Auntie Claire, OYB, seemed to have loads of work for you all the time, and was lovely.

Jeff, OYB SD and Creative, knew exactly where you ought to be nearly always.

Best cunt'roller I have got work from on a regular basis (bear in mind I changed firm every other week..) was Paul Williams, who I believe to be 'rolling vans at LD. Stevie at Reuters needs more time before he takes the title but he's running a close second at the mo.

Funniest c'roller has got to be Cas at Clockwork for telling me I fried his brains back in the day when he was a pushie...

Worst c'roller, Bill for the fact he never gave me a chance..

+1 for Lawrence (London and City then Reuter Brooks).

Always a hard task master, but got you to were you wanted to be.

Very much valued, trusted and rewarded good riders.

Muppet's always struggled, but loved every moment.

hereford dave at churchills was almost amusingly bad. had a 'get it off the screen' attitude to dispatching.
any postcode with a W in it was in the same place. marvelous.

Both the best known Lawrences- Lawrence at Cyclone and Lawrence at 'Crooks were fucking hillarous. I never worked full time at cyclone but being there even for a short while I loved it, even if it was pure anarchy what with jed and matty boy being let loose... Steve the Show Pony (also Reuter Crooks) was pretty funny as well. Oh and they were all pretty good controlers though as Steve got better the clients got less poor bastard. Rego is fucking funny as well and a great controller even if he spends most of the day on the radio. Lee at 'Sprint was a good laugh too.

Bill Butler, Martin Mullins/ creative have the clearest radio voices and Warren Metro joins them in the incrediblly laid back club. I never worked for Dec but he sounds a lot like Martin on the radio and their controlling style sounds the same so I can only assume he is as good as his brother.

Brian at City Sprint was truely amazing everytime the XDAs went down and was pretty shit hot anyway. Kev and Lee were good as well, you have to be with 50 riders.

I've gotta give Bill a mention cos his street knowledge is mind blowing, up there with Brian at city sprint. Plus no one has mentioned him yet. I swear Brian had Bada bing or Shay or someone giving him full descriptions new built buildings cos he could tell you where to go right up to the desk the package was on.

I'm not gonna give a top 3 or anything cos at least 2 people if not more who have controlled me are reading this and I don't wanna get political or personal.

Andy at Pink, a hard taskmaster, but capable of creating sublimely superb runs when the work is there. As he says on the radio many times himself, hes a "grumpy bastard" but very humorous with it. Raises eybrows at traffic lights when my radio suddenly screams: "Will all you ignorant motherfuckers standby! Just shut the fuck up and let me speak to ** and ** only"!!"

gotta go with bill - auntie claire: and I never even worked for her.
I merely had the task of replacing her - her riders hated me for at least a fortnight, some even jumped ship.
and californian jeff - even before he was controlling, he was reading the desk from out on the road and making suggestions to his controller (john the bastard) whom he eventually replaced.
  3.
I am actually a very tough rider to "control". I have an over active sense of justice and a large mouth, making me kinda hell on circuit.

I started working for Laurence, and although he is a fantastic controller for knowledge and laughs we also manged to wind each other up to the point that we would be screaming at each other over the phone.

I went from Cyclone to Scream, and Clive can't control his way out of a wet paper sack. I worked their for months and he never learned my name despite constant prodding, he would chase me constantly on jobs which lent me to believe I was super slow and nearly have a nervous breakdown trying to be faster, and the last day I worked for him I only made £30 in 10 hours.

My two favorite controllers are Hector from Topnotch in NYC, he was always cheerful and worked really hard to do right by his riders (he was also the owner). We were all payed hourly, so he was co-ordinating hand offs and trying to make sure that the people on a lower wage wern't working as hard as everyone else.
Martin at creative as also amazing. He has never been anything but even and fair, and has never evoked the famous wrath of Nhatt. This deserves a medal, really.

I haven't worked for many companies, and wasn't going to comment on the topic ...but...I have to admit that the guys at City Sprint are as wayne put it "bang on", they are fun to work with, and are very professional. Good controlling makes the day much easier!
