How many of you have signed up to be part of the radio 4 documentary? Because I think it's important we get our stories straight beforehand.
Firstly: we are all well paid and our efforts are very much appreciated by our employers.
Second; our employers are not our employers because we are all self-employed and so they can in no way be held responsible for any of the bad stuff.
Third; we are all the best of friends and it really is like one big family. Except the real family you grew up in where nobody got along and you couldn't wait to escape.
Fourth: as cyclists we all, of course, have the greatest respect and affection for other bikers and find their presence on the roads to be encouraging and uplifting.
Fifth; couriering is a lifestyle. It is certainly not just a job.
Sixth; we don't like to talk about fakengers because we have no time for that kind of negativity.
Seventh; we appreciate what a difficult job controllers have and feel that they are, in many ways, the unsung heroes of couriering and actually merit a documentary all of their own.
Eighth; when things are slow we don't get downhearted or, if we do, our friends in the courier community are always there with a kind word or cheery smile to see us through.
Ninth; reports of excessive drinking and drug taking are wide of the mark. As urban athletes we can ill afford not to treat out bodies as the temples they are.
Tenth; we really do think radio four puts out some splendid programmes and never miss a chance to tune in during the day if we have a spare minute.

    Any points i have missed?

I fully understand what you are trying to do & think you have made some very valid points, especially number seven.

I think that it is the ninth point that lets you down a little, you were/are clearly absolutely out of your nut on multiple substances when you posted this.

Will-I'm surprised you have missed that one: 15.We do not talk to other couriers unless they have been on the road before we started.Otherwise we just ignore them.
Btw-Is number seven your stance from before your brief experience in stitching up???

Thursday 12th june between clerkenwell and soho she will be on a bike and is just up for some short interviews with couriers that will take approx 15 minutes.

There is rightly a lot of cynicism about the media. However, I think that Katie is ok, and will do a good job - if she has the material. So if you have something you want to say, take the opportunity to hook up with her.

for years metro riders had a rep for ignoring other riders-even their own!-so these past few years I've single-handedly tried to make amends by making sure I acknowledge the couriers I see around.Trouble is no f*cker says hello back!

    Dearest Overdrive,

After all we've meant to each other how can you possibly say that I never say hi back to you on the road? I say hi to everyone, especially you with your lovely smile and chipper wave.

    Ms Attack

PS, I think Katie is going to do a lovely job on the radio 4 thing, and that's not just because it's been one of my major life aims to get on radio 4. If I knew being a courier would propel me to such great levels I would have done it years ago.

    Overcooked, I feel your pain.

I smiled at everyone who was riding past me on my way to Herne Hill at 0800 the other morning. None of the roadies, fakengers or couriers (apart from Jed who I know) acknowledged me, the only two people that did were middle aged ladies on 'sit up and begs'.......I wasn't wearing any Metro gear.

Ergo London is full of grump bastards.

I guess Nhatt is sure to be included because the producer, reasonably enough, wants to make sure female couriers are featured. The rest of us though may have to work for our fifteen seconds. Personally I am working up an Homeric angle, courier as modern day Odysseus. I think that may appeal to the R4 demographic and may even, if I really go for it, get me into Pseuds Corner. Now I must go and spend some more time on Wikipedia.

you and sean would make a great controlling team dec; that's a long one up isn't it sean? certainly it is Declan. but it all depends, if you're feeling good and you've got the legs then there's a chance you can hold out to the end as we say in cycling terms:kissing:

You should know better. Countless times people have said to me, I saw you the other day, but when I tried to get your attention, you gave me the finger.

    Oh, what were you doing?

    I tooted my horn.

Of course I gave you the finger!

@ overcooked "so these past few years I've single-handedly tried to make amends by making sure I acknowledge the couriers I see around"

What a load of old cack. I remember the story you told me how one day out of the blue you thought you would try something different and smile at a un-elite courieirier. He blanked you so you assaulted him at the duke on a friday night and made him apologiseier.
