The gun laws are an interesting one. Back in 1997 they were one of tony blairs manifesto pledges, and an almighty cock they made of it too. There are now more guns in britain than there were in 1997. before 1997 the police had a good idea of where the guns were, now they don't. They banned guns after the dunblaine shooting where sme nutbar went into a primary school and shot a load of kiddies. Terrible events, but they resulted in the sort of knee jerk law that british governments pull out once every few years that cock up everything. The only people to suffer from the gun laws were sports shooters. criminals have benefited. You want a gun? give me half an hour and the use of your phone and I'll get you one. its that easy.
This is the problem with the current system. Politicians are able to play on peoples fears to bring out Gun laws, make terrorism legislation that flies in the face of a thousand years of social progress and ban bendy buses. The public rely on politicians, rather than rely on themselves. A direct, Democratic debate and vote on the issues (especially with the time involed.) would be far more beneficial. cooler heads would (hopefully) prevail.
Oh, and the EU is looking at standardising gun Laws, so you may be able to get that gloc yet...
First post. Just wanted to say, I'm really glad I stumbled upon this site. I'm not a courier (yet) but want to be. I'm pleased with the level of debate we can formulate here (you guys do seem like a cool bunch) but before I go off topic too far, wanted to applaud Count Basie, wether you agree or don't with his sentiments, he raises thoughtful, intellectual concerns regarding the current state of affairs. Any person who does so deserves credit because there are far too many obedient sleepers currently wasting our earthly space and resources, allowing the "tendency" of power to corrupt turn into actuality. - Some of the agressive Basie attackers: give him a break... He is on your side weather you know it or not!!
Bassie or do i call you arif now? You seem to be suffering from split personality disorder. When you feel the rage building from the inside, your heart beat racing and you break out into an uncontrollable sweat, try to observe the sensation. Where do these misanthropy tendencies come from? Deep inside i believe even you are full of love and compassion. Count release from your painful shackles and come dance the merry jig with overdrive
... Maybe he has spoken elsewhere of a lot of 'nonsense' or slanderous nature, or whatever it is a few of you seem to despise so much, that I have not read, thus forming a slightly uneducated opinion on what his philosophy is and why it is so hated. But it's not that I agree with everything he says, simply that I appreciate we can have such discussion.
If that's bollocks; whilst the likes of David Beckham and Britney Spears remain popular role models 'for our children' ... I'm even more convinced of human's progressive dive towards intellectual decline. We are de-evolving!!
Wow, I didn't think I'd be so hated on here already. I didn't offend anyone, did i?
Johnsatisfaction, David Beckham and Britney Spears, I raised to make the point about how distracted a race we have become - how since we are so distracted and interested (as a whole) with such trivial matters, what little hard debate really goes on in the world should be encouraged even if it is of a controversial nature, rather than inaccurately discredited and instantly shunned as so eloquently demonstrated by Overdrive
Again, sleepy, shame on me for not immediately latching on to your sarcasm, if you lot rather I left these forums...
Shame, I thought I might find some interesting company here.
Arif is cycling inside the square mile on his customised pink brompton in a daze. He can't understand why he has been shunned by the movingtarget forum. He starts to feel victimised and shouts "why me" to a passing black cab. His face starts to blur and change shape, his mouth turning up at the side into a snarl. Now he shouts goddamn bill and his uberalite followers, goddamn all the petophiles on bikes stopping at pedestrian crossings, "i'm the count" [insert evil histerical laughter]. Someone cycles by with a 100 foot cock dragging along behind him eating some fine swiss cheese. The count gives chase not missing his chance for some bike cock but he fails to see the molotov cocktail that has been launched from the new state of the art boris triple decker bus with a huge Z slashed on the front...
hahah. not to put down the couriers here in this forum, but what exactly do you mean by "make it"??
foot in mouth? pissing on own doorstep? take your pick
'Making it' in life involves doing a job you enjoy and things that make you happy, having enough money to eat drink and smoke a weed and fucking over as few people as possible while doing it.
By the way my IQ looks like your phone number, son.

it's not hard debate anyone has a problem with, but there are ways to put your point across. It doesn't help to piss people off while talking to them, thats where this guy has gone wrong. Calling everyone under the sun and expecting to get a good response is a bit naive. As for people looking up to David Beckham and britney spears, I wouldn't believe everything you read in the papers.
John if you honestly think that this newspaper's impression of david beckham, spice girls, madonna, paris hilton e.t.c. being popular role models for young people, is mistaken then I'm afraid you really aren't in touch with a wide enough spectrum of people. Perhaps to your benefit, but still, you're simply wrong.
Sorry, the "make it in this buisness" caught me off guard a little bit. I honestly didn't think one can "make it" in courier-ing. Sure you can get by, but can you raise a family on it? Perhaps I'm naive here but a few of you seem to vehemently defend/argue this intelligence that's necessary, surely messaging can't be that intensive on the brain?
I still don't really understand what I wrote to get such a negative response from some of you. I'm particularly interested in how sleepy has so swiftly and conclusively pinned down my lack of intelligence.
Messaging isn't intensive on the brain, you type in the text you want to send on the phone/xda pad, choose the person you want to send it to from your contacts page and off you go.
Couriering on the other hand takes a certain combitantion of skills and intelligence coupled with a high level of concerntration.
Arif, you may have noticed that the people here rip the piss out of each other in a 'very healthy' fashion. It has been happening in the courier community for years & I doubt it will ever stop. Nearly every body on here knows everyone else too, in the real space as well as cyber space. Have you you met any of them yet?
Give it a little longer and you will be accepted, it won't take long. In my experience London's couriers are an open minded bunch.
Yeh, Caspar's right, Arif, take it on the chin. Though I have no idea who Caspar is, over Overdrive or Sleepy. I do know Pikey and I met Fromemory in Morrisons once. Still, maybe after another 16 years on the road I'll know you all.

No, I'm not. Some kids may look up to those people, but not all of them. It certainly doesn't spell the end of western civilisation.
As for the Make it crap, you're a kid. You sound like a kid and have a kids attitude. If your Idea of making it is to have shit loads of money and flash cars then you need to do a little livin. More Money = more problems I suggest you work for a few years in a well paid office job. You'll then appreciate the terminal dullness that people have to put up with for 8 hours a day in order to 'make it' and when you do become a courier you'll appreciate it more.
I know... I am thoroughly aware of the perils of capitalism. Indeed I have done a little bit of living and exploring. I was only using my learned impression of the stereotypical use for the term 'making it'. Not, my own personal opinion. Personally, you sound like you have your priorities right John, so I thoroughly commend you, and the others who so deserve it. But philosophical issues aside, and a question with no connotations attached: To break down the term 'making it' to it's most basic, un-opinionated form... Could couriering feasibly produce enough wealth for the continuation of your family species under moderate comfort?
also, I didn't say that all kids look up those, but that a significant portion do. And as these people seem to be the ones having all the kids (at such young ages too) they'll soon far outnumber. Not that it matters to the elite, there will always be an elite. But the gap will only widen, and progressively make us in the middle region feel isolated, uninspired and eventually die out as a breed. Then we will have split humanity into two simple factions... those with power, and those without. Those without will be the domesticated (as if we aren't already), indefensible, sterile many, who probably may never reap the influence necessary to unite. Thus free life, will thereon forever cease to exist... If of course we haven't already nuked each other off this planet by then.
But that's just a prediction, Fair enough if it sounds bollocks or shows that I clearly have no brains :P
There are a lot of words in this discussion. None of which I can be bothered to read, but every time a thread gets close to 100 posts it's tradition to help it on it's way.
