My new... NEW bike has just been stolen. I'm absolutely devastated... I was at the Prince George in Hackney, cycled down with a few chums, there were loads of flash bikes chained up, a few courier ones as well so I didn't think twice about locking up the beast to a lamp post. I came outside at around 11:30 and it was gone.
Millions of thoughts of distraught have been running through my head to publish but what can I say now. Anyone who knows me, who followed my previous thread or has taken but a fleeting interest in my blog will know that bike was my life and soul, my carriage through life and the fruit of endless labour, and now some cunt's got it and is probably laughing to his mates about what a fucking find he got.
The thing that really gets me is that there's every chance this parasite thinks that some sort of moral justice has occurred. They probably thought, wow, that's a nice bike, whoever could afford that is probably better off than me, so fuck it, they can buy a new one. Well I'm not well off, I struggle to get by and I work fucking hard to make it through, and that's that.
Fucking.
CUNTS.
I guess if there was any time to be proactive about it, the time is now. So please, I beg of you, to keep an eye out for this bike:
It's a LeMond Etape, shiny red with white logos. 8-speed with 2 front cogs, STI levers, some scratches where my lock has been knocked against it. I can't think of anything remarkable about it except what I've just described.
who are you? never seen that bike on circuit....And belive ive bin on cucuit 4 a long time!! i will keep me peepers open! get a kryptonite small dlock!....bike fuckers wont really look @these!
sorry too hear that, hope u find it somehow. On the subject of locks http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp?style=11056 is what i use and have been told by people that actualy steal bikes that they "cant be arsed with them" so that gave me abit of reasurence.
very sorry to hear about your bike. i hope you get it back. was it insured?
i've discouraged people from using cycleguard before, but you know what, maybe its better to have insurance than not to. just in case. £5 a month doesnt seem too steep, when your bike is worth over £500. just make sure you read (and re-read) the small print.
as for locks - what were you using?
on your next one i'd get that abus lock that chewy has recommended, to lock the front wheel and frame to the post, plus a kryptonite mini d just to lock the back wheel to the frame.you can carry the abus around your waist and the krypto in the back of your trousers.
everyone i know to live in london says go down brick lane to look for stolen bikes, they reckon you should ring the cops if you spot it being sold there, but fuck knows if that would actually work or not.
Yep, definitely gonna up the lock situation with the new bike. Loved the Etape so much I'm just gonna have to get the same one again, though it is a very sexy bike and definitely it was a matter of time till it caught a thieve's eye. My lock wasn't good enough, so I guess I sorta learnt the hard way, but damn, now I'm going to be paying for 2 bikes a month! ARRRRRRGGHHH!!!!
for real, get yourself down to brick lane market tomorrow.
if you spot it, ask how much it is, then say you've got to go to the cash point. instead, go get a copper and have them watch you be offered your own bike for money. that's the only way they will get nicked.
i think that's the way you have to do it. sleepy's the expert. he's at work now but i am going to see him soon. i'll ask him and if i am wrong, he'll correct me. (or someone else will.)
sorry to hear this tho. i lost a bike b/c of a not so good lock a long time ago. it's a hard way to learn a lesson.
fuck it, cry, i would. and i did, after scaring the tourists of covent garden by screaming every profanity under the sun. even though it was about 11 years ago, i can still remember that moment now. it's horrid.
i don't know what the percentage is, but so many stolen bikes end up at brick lane the sundy after the theft. you really do need to figure a solution out, for this sunday and a following few more.
No, I wasn't sure how to play it, loads of people have suggested pulling some sort of insurance scam (it wasn't insured) but I don't know if I have it in me to do that and I need a new bike ASAP. Reckon I should go to the fuzz now?
how do you do an insurance scam if it wasn't insured??? never mind, don't answer that.
if you want to get it back from brick lane with the aid of the police, you need to have reported it stolen. even if you don't want to / can't get it back with their aid, i would report it.
"1. find your bicycle. 2. ask cocksuckingstolenbikesellingwankstain how much and tell him you'll buy it but need to get money from the cash point, basically get him to save it for you 3. go somewhere [out of sight] and call police. tell them the situation [btw, you'll need a crime number so make sure the theft of your bike is reported], they should send plainclothes officers to meet you [they did for sasha of RB]. 4. with the plainclothes officers standing next to you tell the cocksuckingstolenbikesellingwankstain that you're back to buy the bicycle. *ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE PLAN IS FOR THE COCKSUCKINGSTOLENBIKESELLINGWANKSTAIN TO OFFER TO SELL YOU YOUR BICYCLE IN FRONT OF POLICE OFFICERS* 5. show cocksuckingstolenbikesellingwankstain receipt. 6. introduce him to plod. 7. rub hands with glee as he's arrested for sale of stolen goods. 8. ride away on your bicycle."
good luck. turning up on the vast amounts of acid needed to make psy-trance sound is not a good idea though
Sounds good, does anyone know what time would be a good time to go down there? Like what time it starts up in the morning etc?
If I was to find my bike, Sleep's plan of action sounds like a good 'un, though it has to be said, in the mood I'm in right now, I feel confident that simply fulfilling the criteria displayed in point number 1 would be enough to ensure my re-posession. I'm about ready to unleash some ninja courier fists of fury :P
@ fromemory Gutted for you. Try Brick lane and get down there early,it starts at bout 6, also thieves have many other outlets (gumtree, private buyers, smaller bike shops, crack converters etc). I really hope you recover it but if you don't it's worth bearing in mind for the future that thieves have and always will target paint jobs, the shiny new bike with a makers name on it, as they have a greater resale value. I know I'm stating the obvious but I had to learn from hard experience. For the last few years I've ridden a conalgo with a truly awful spray job. Rides like a dream but looks shabby as f**k, just have to make sure the wheels are locked properly. Best of luck for the future and getting this whole thing sorted out, will keep a look out for it. (also churchills have been known to put up an advance to replace a stolen bike, not sure if this is still the case but worth a try).
Scan www.gumtree.com in the sport or bike section (can't remember which one its called), my housemate found his stolen bike on there, aranged to meet the seller to buy the bike and brought plod with him. Also look out for a similar bike with black tape all over it, or badly painted all in one colour.
was that the george just off queensbridge road. the fuckers target that place. everyone leaves there bikes outside because eveyones smoking or in the garden and then there is a lock in.... when that happens they come like rabid hyenas. it happened to me, though they took my carbon seat post and brooks saddle... which hurt as it was all broken in to my buttocks over the years.... now i ve written under my new brooks....in marker pen 'this is my dying gift to you my son. ride safe'..... so if they steal it again maybe a hint of guilt will wash through their theiving hands.....
dont lock up your bike outside the george after lock in!!!!
Yep, sounds like some sort of regular occurrence. There should DEFINITELY be signs put up there. Notice it's monday now and I'm at home.. gonna have to figure out some new transport soon. I'm thinking same bike again (double finance for the next 6 months, eek!) and uber 60squid+ lock, and also maybe a cheaper second lock, plus insurance. You can't be too careful, I've learnt the hard way.
