I see this alot in youtubes of other cities, mainly NYC, but have never ever seen it done in London. I guess there's not much to hold onto, and it's probably one of the most dangerous manouveres. Anyone on here ever make a practise of it?

up mountains in SE asia- yay! around london- no need IMO. seen a few people do it and been pulled by people i know but IMO there's too much unforeseen stuff in london and the risk of a crash is probably pretty high. either that or i'm just gutless

Defo agree there's usually not much point... we go faster without. I like the sound of doing it over bridges...

hahahaha....why dont we have the london equivalent of the "x men"? that would be fucking hilarious.
  1.
i do it whenever i can when im on a freewheel and not broken, only on dual carridgeways or up hill though. Had a great one on the euston road where i was hanging from a rout master and my mate was hanging onto my shoulder. Busses are getting wise to it though; was hanging onto the corragations of a bendy a while back when he put the brakes on and shouted "no lifts!" as i cruised by, lulz.
  2.
i've done it no point in london, traffic is too tight. round small cities in the us or over bridges have done it, some cars hit 40ishmph and i let go, not dead yet, but try not to do it much.
  3.
Hanging on is the ONLY thing the old Routemasters were good for.

Hanging used to be MASSIVE in London about 10 years ago, Barnesy was the absolute king! - don't why it fell out of favour... obsession with skidding?

hanging on to vehicles got me PAID in london. the trick is to hold on to the right side of a bendy bus. the drivers never check their mirrors and are insane fast on any open stretch of road, ie pentonville, hampsted road, marylebone, etc. super fast! (not that i've ever done that, or encourage anyone to do it) bonus: style points with the chavs that hopped on the back doors!
  4.
The guys who did it most reckoned that hanging on the wheel arch was the way to go.

But you have be pretty careful - hand on the centre of the bars.

I've pulled the indicator lights off the side of buses doing this.....and yes the fuel cap on older taxis was in a perfect position.

it's strange how easy parts come of buses... oh, make sure all the straps on your bag are done up. not that you should ever grab a vehicle. ever.

Overdose, isn't it normal behaviour for ones minions and underlings to herald the passing of their lord and master?
  7.
i like ski/ bike rack on 4x4s, those little holes on the back of pick ups, and straps on lorries you should never do this, ever.

no one should ever grab door handles (don't know if its locked), wheel wells of cars or trucks or 4x4s with tight clearance (wheels move up and down a lot on motors)

just my 2 cents, or about .000000000000000000000015 pence

    >oh, make sure all the straps on your bag are done up.

I once got my bag stuck on the mirror of a van whilst cutting between two cars along the embankment just as he accelerated away. I was too afraid to let go of the bars to even try and bang on the van and get his attention:(

Ive still no idea how fast we went, and it cant have been more than a few seconds until we slowed for the next lights. The memory of being dragged that fast still scares the c**p out of me though..
  8.
I caught a lorry down highway 94 today, speed limit 55 cut my 2 hour cycle to the next town down to 1hr and 10 min, didn't even let go when he stopped for the light.
