With the crappy weather we have been getting lately I am fed up of getting a wet arse from the road spray. Does anyone use clip on mud guards? Is there any point, do they work, is there another solution?
  1.
Real mudguards, or the salmon lo-pro guards.

I was thinking about one of those ugly things you stick on the back (a clip on?). So it would be small enough to put in my bag when I don't need it and just pull it out when I really need it. Race blades take up quite a bit of room don't they and how quick are they to put on take off?

I found race blades a pain. But some people love them.

I did 15+ winters without any guards at -all usual excuses 'spoil the the line of my bike' 'too heavy' 'for sisseys' what a MUPPET I am now very proud to be a sissey , or more to the point a dry-arsed sissey. Also going to recommend race blades though you might want to put some leccy or handlebar tape round your seat stays to protect your frame depends how precious you are about that sort of thing. Going have to say though I've never done it carrying a clip-on round in your bag sounds like a really bad idea 1. more weight on your back
    2. less room in your bag for packages- the things you get paid for
    3. I can see them getting caught up with packages i.e. making it harder to slide a package in or coming out when you try to deliver
    4. do you really want to put something wet a COVERED with shit in your bag? have you ever seen in undrside of a mudguard?

Went and bought a dinky little thing for a tenner in the end. It looks like it'll do the trick and I'll probably only use it when it is going to be pissing it down so leave it at home most days. Can't be arsed with Racing blades messing with my forks either. They had some total gimmick thing though in one shop that was an inflatable mudguard that you roll up in your bag. What a total waste of time! I'll now while away my biking hours looking for some dick who has forked out for the £30 they cost!

I chopped my race blades up so that they only protect my arse, and not the person behind me, i justify this because i am a selfish bastard, its less weight, and makes it slightly easier to get the wheel out with track ends.

I saw someone with one of those wooden fruit boxes attached to the back of his bike today. If he wasn't speeding by I would have taken a pic.

I've still got my ancient Raleigh kicking around. It can be fun to take out at times and I never cease to be amazed by how much crap you can fit in the panniers and on the rack at the back. Feels really weird riding with a vertical riding position when you are normally on a road bike.
