    since movin out of london i've gone back to gears and brakes and started cyclin on some A roads with big speed limits speed limits (up to 60mph). drivers however seem less than enthusiastic to come across me ploddin along at my leisurly pace, tellin me that i shouldnt be on these roads. I was always sure that i was allowed to ride on anything that wasn't a motorway.

    am i right?

    Exactly right. Unless there is a sign specifically prohibiting cycling (as there is on M-ways) then you have the right (not a licence!) to do so.
