You are not going to believe what I've just discovered in the bottom of a dusty filing cabinet, William!!
For one, there's a mint first edition of "Despatch Rider" magazine from June 1987 - one month after I decided to stop being a fat bastard motorcyclist at West One and be a pushie instead. It features an "accommodation / squat wanted" classified from an On Yer Bike rider named Bren!Whatever happened to him?
For two......drum roll......there's a rider info sheet from a company in Beak Street, which presumably dates from the same era. I wonder which company might have been there, William.
Under the "rates of pay" heading is the following...."It is very hard to give an average wage but as an experienced rider you should be earning approx. £25-£30 per day. Of course people that know our circuit will regularly earn £35-£40 per day. In our experience new riders earn between £15 - £23 per day..."
Under a "bleeps and radios" heading...."At the moment we have bleeps. These enable us to get in touch with you when you are out of the office. Very soon we will be radio controlled but more of that as and when. There is no charge for a bleep but be very careful with them....."
Under "subs"....."..Subs are only given in emergencies. If thyere is a real problem ask Jay..."
On the "NEVER" list....."Never go home with a bleep"....."Never ignore a bleep"
Oh and the Crea...Oops the company in question's Red Star account was C87018, if anyone has a spare tardis and fancies getting some parcels delivered.
Lisa, Nicky and Hop were the main men....well, sort of, at the time.

I used to have about 20 Red Star numbers written down in my book. I am going misty eyed just thinking about it...

...or is that just the cataracts?
