So been thinking of this for a while, but how about doing an overall London Alleycat Series. The races could be organized by different people but there could be an overall prize(s) for the most consistent finisher(s). The current Leader would have a jersey (maybe something cheeesey on it like "Londons fastest messenger" on it). The overall prizes could be something like a bag and/or maybe a ticket and entry to the cmwc? In each race there would be points from 1st down to 20th place (So 20 for a win, 1 for 20th place) and the rider with the most points would lead the series.

Who can race- EVERYONE, but the main prizes would be for working messengers. Why? Cos my ideal main prize would be a trip to the CMWC and prizes that proclaim 'fastest messenger in london'. I also think there should be seperate leagues for men and women and there could be a non messenger league.

Anyone who wants to talk to me about it, I'll either be at the snow briefley tonight OR email me about it at twitchmcgee@gmail.com... sponsers especially!

Why dont you organise a race now and we can get going!!
  1.
Twitch, the CMWC's aren't working messenger exclusive.
    Neither are oversized bags...

    Maybe a golden radio?

Good idea if you can be bothered to organise it good on you.

I've been very half arsedly trying to get the jersey thing going ever since I got back from Sydney where they do that & use a wool jersey so it really stinks. Just a jersey that is passed from winner to winner, no need for a league to work out who wears it, but course would work with a league.

I have a few ideas and a toronto alleycat winners bag for you I'll give you a shout tommorow.

We had a couple of Alleycat series ages ago - first one won by Chang, second by Elliot. The jersey thing is cool - we got the legend 'Alleycat Series Leader' flocked on by a guy in Carnaby Street - looked awesome.

I think you might be able to read about our ridiculous points system for the first series here:

I've got at least two of my own alleycats in the works. One I have the course for, I just need to work out when to do it. I'll try and do it before the end of the month though. I also wanna do a Paris-Roubaix Alleycat maybe the morning before the race or in the afternoon afterwards. I'd like to tie the series in with other events, maybe deliberately having them finish at roller races and so on?

Mike is right, alleycats and cmwc's aren't working messenger exclusive. However the intials CMWC stand for Cycle Messenger World Championship. I think the winning working male and female messenger should get a plane ticket and entry... BUT this is a very expensive prize and may not be possible with out a lot of sponsership. Jerseys, bags and other prizes are more realistic. Maybe next year if it was run again the prize could be tickets to the WC and the ECs this year? I think as much as anything the motivation of being able to proclaim yourself the fastest/ most consistent could be the biggest motivator for quite a few people. I've not set my ideas in stone on anything yet.

I am trying to work out a valid points system that is fair and inclusive, but also very simple. I don't think there needs to be a set number of races if the main prize isn't time specific?

Why not make it a more affordable prize: ticket to Eindhoven for the ECMC?
  4.
Ticket to Millportpoloco the world's toughest messenger event..and that's got nothing to do with the racing.

iirc porno and caveman did an alleycat series before ecmc2004. although there was some grumbles about the fact that the prizes for the individual alleycats were cheap although the entry fee was paying for the travel and entry for the ecmc. you should be able to get more entrants and sponsors now though- don't bar the fakengers! if working messengers can't beat em that's their problem innit.

Cheap? I won one of them races and the prize was a bag of potatoes, which I'd had to carry all the way for being first to the second checkpoint. Fcukin cnuts. I seriously nearly lamped caveman when he told me them potatoes were my prize, no prize would've been fine but not a bag of spuds. Cnut.
