Been caught up in a paranoid swirl of late and bought a mini d today to supplement my other lock.

It's been along time since i owned a d lock a was surprised how rattly it was.
Used for the first time. went to unlock it and the bas-ard wouldn't undo.

Now I know any lock can jam, but this was silly. Took me 6 minutes to tease the key into the barrel again, align the tumblers and get it open.
Maybe it just needs breaking in....I hope breaking isn't the optimum word.

I don't have much confidence in it. Looks like it could be jimied pronto.

I know these are de-rigeur poking out of ones back pocket, but after todays experience i wouldn't be using this as a serious work lock.
Anyone else got bad words to say?

Got a nice cash deal from the shop though so doesn't look like it'll be going back.....this is why people use evans: return things with maximum fuss with no offence caused. Lesson learned.

nothing bad to say about them apart from the fact that they will fuck your jeans if you keep it in the back pocket. holster ftw!

but on the upside, they are fucking stong, infact so strong that it didnt open when the fuckers tried levering it open with my frame and made my bike unridable

i love mine, and the above featured holster (i also have one of the fabric horse utility belts too - weeee!), but i agree that sometimes the locking mechanism can be a little sticky. nothing like the trouble you are having though. i just have to jiggle the key a little from time to time. maybe try some WD40?

    these are cool too:

They rock. Yeah occasionaly jam but i've never had a bike nicked after using them for years and i've never heard of anyone else having their bike nicked locked up with one of those. I also have a big hole in my jeans

Don't use WD40 or other liquid lubes on lock mechanisms.

    Graphite is the thing!
  4.
Locks should frequently be lubed with Iron Eye's Optimum U-Lube. It's only £96.97 for 100ml. Alternatively you could use cheap inferior products such as wet chain lube.

wd40 is essentially a solvent and will break down any lube in there- it will however remove shit that's caught in there. bill's right about graphite- it is the nuts for locks.

whatever. my front door is lubetastic. i know b/c at night i shrink and become tankerbell and go on fun trips up the lea river. i exit the house via the key hole.

i've been thinking about this. OF COURSE you had to hate on my idea. this is a bicycle forum and bicycle people are SQUEAMISH about WD40. and rightly so. but i didn't say to spray it on the seat post or the chain. so, i'm sticking with my suggestion and i'm also going to spray it around the house just b/c. perhaps my creaky knee joints too. and my hand.

I just bought one of those u-lock holders. I hope it is worth the £10.02. It actually costs just £4 but the only fucking postage option costs £6. Bastards.

Liquid lubes gunk up the lock after a while, but graphite keeps it dry and clean. I just rub a pencil over the key and get some powdered graphite in the lock that way.

    Not my tip!

It's from the guy in Ching Court who used to unstick my messed up D locks...
  7.
Now taking fabric horse orders....if you pay pal them I'll be in philly next week.

actually my mini d is about 7-8 year old and the key is well worn, had a few copies cut but they dont really fit the barrel well.......infact, not at all.....ok, im a tight cunt on that front, but keep it well maintained with graphite and it will be fine for at least 5 years
i used to crush a few pentel 0.5mm pencil leads into the barrel every month and a short blast of GT85 on the sockets, never had any grief

sleepy, can you get me one of them there holsters in black with metal studs and a black leather cowboy hat to fit the rest of my outfit?

Sleepy watch out i think Tipper is trying to groom you.
