I thought they were trousers with a low waistline.....actually the waistline is on the hips...
Sadly, however I believe the term "hipster" is yet another americanism sneaking it's way into our rich and beautiful language, the footsoldiers of such cultural degradation are usually "the fakengers" with their blinkered and overwhelming obsession with anything "they" do or say in NY....the adoption of the heavy, slow and ugly Aerospoke wheel is a classic example of this ludicrous phenomenon....thank god the word fakenger was invented in good old London.....or was it?
I guess that a 'hipster' is anyone that the viewer considers 'inauthentic'. It's a totally subjective term. It's a way of saying 'I was here first, this is my sand-castle, and you can't play in it cos you're not cool enough'.
"thank god the word fakenger was invented in good old London.....or was it?"
i'm almost certain it was- even if the concept were imported. although i definitely agree about the hipster/trousers thing. aren't what get called hipsters now just what we called shoreditch twats a year two ago?
no, the shoreditch twat was a twat who ran clubs in shoreditch, who, after a few years of being called the shoreditch twat by colleages, brought out a magazine entitled such.
but i agree with sleepy. back in 2003 (ahh, the wonders of once having a blog!), when i lived in philly and decided that i hated hipsters, a UK reader asked if hipsters were the same thing as a shoreditch twat. they are/were.
