Was talking to Tag Pete yesterday about Sudbury and doing a mountain bike ride there soon. Also Crazy Dave and me definitely up for it.

Would like to do North Downs, Leith Hill area sometime soon too, used to have a few couriers doing MTB rides there a few years back.

Anyone else interested? First ride probably in two or three weeks.

Right. Crazies new bike just dropped through the letterbox, weathers dry and there's no racing this weekend so on Sunday there be couriers in the woods. Not sure if that'll be Dorking or Sudbury but anyone who's up for it get ready.

Why are that guy's forks fitted backwards?

He let a metro uber courier (unter mechanic) put his bike together

it really worries me the amount of people i see riding round like that as if it's proper. saw a bloke on a cheapshit-straightouta china roadie w/ backwards forks on bishopsgate a while back. tried to point out the error of his ways- he flat ignored me when he realised i wasn't saying what nice shiny bike he had. twat.

imo everyone should be forced to fit cantis. that'd end this madness.

    It improved my turning circle.

To be honest I hadn't even noticed the difference, but we had only ridden about 250m before Josh almost fell off laughing!

    Sleepy,

Come down to Dartmoor for a weekend's MTB and I'll show you why everyone doesn't want canti's any more.

fair point- got a set of deore hydraulics on my [sadly neglected] rockhopper. i know what a blessing they are in 12" of mud. i really really ought to get out and get muddy again but you lot would probably grind me into paste

He can, but he won't. I had a great time when I was down there.

How did mountainbikers stop when they had canti's? Did they just stick their feet between tyre and frame or something?

    Trees.

Before discs people often used Trees. Fast to Stop in no time at all.

On Dartmoor I find that peat, mixed with a little water, is used more frequently than trees. It is far more difficult to see but has a similar effect on ones momentum.

Less damaging to the bike too. Trees are dying (or not in this case).

Both those fools were catapulted over the bars when their front wheels stuck in the mud, brilliant

re: canti's to halt the madness of backwards forks, i take it all back. just seen a bike locked up with cantis and backwards forks- the cable wraps around the head tube to get to the brake.

    triangular steerer maybe?
