Could just be a distorted closeup/wideangle photo, but the dropout/derailleur hanger looks twisted too, coincidentally in just the place where all the chrome is flaking off.
with posts like what, jonaent? genuine enquiries? everyone knows sleepy is a colnago whore; he's probably interested in buying it. you sound mighty defensive, why? know something we don't? or are you just a little hormonal?
don't really fancy the carbon ones- stripped parts off a c50 when i was working in sydney so it could be warranteed. the guy had ridden to the shop with the rear triangle held together with jubilee clips shimmed with inner tubing
I've also had some dealings (and some rides) with Roberto - thoroughly nice bloke and complete bikie. Looks to me like rub from a frame pad. If you're interested why not email and go and eyeball the frame for yourself?
""You wanna be careful with posts like this" what do you mean by that?"
I just mean that you know what the internet is like with lots of people getting into Fixies that know little about them, reading what is said on here and they might think that Roberto is selling shit goods..... when a lot of us know that most of the fixed wheel conversions in London have a part that has been through Roberto's hands.
Like is said above, just email him and go and take a look for yourself rather than post something that insinuates a fault and asks others to find it.... that's no observation.... if it is it's slightly skewed.
just to clear things up- i sent a message via ebay on tuesday asking about the apparent damage and if the seller could post a pic showing a rear wheel fitted onto the bike to clear up the dropout thing. i put a post up here because i wanted to know what people think about the frame [not the person], a few people do think the frame looks in a bad state- structurally, not just cosmetically. the item is described as : "in overall good condition, never crashed, doesn't have any dents and is straight and true."
hopefully you can see the difference between these 2 pics:
a very nice looking colnago dropout:
what i think is blatent damage:
he may be mates with people on here, he may have sold bits for lots of their bikes, but i really think he's selling a lemon here. the fact that my question remains unanswered 3 days later makes me think he knows it. seeing something so obviously in need of surgery for sale as "straight and true" is shocking and makes me very cautious of dealing with people on ebay. the recent craze for "vintage bikes" has created a sellers market where unscrupulous individuals can and have made money by selling pre-owned bikes with serious damage to unknowledgeable buyers. we all have the right to question sellers and then to ask for others opinions when/if our questions go unanswered.
ps. jona, open ended posts saying "you want to careful" can appear very confrontational and imho have no place on internet forums.
and the roundup- my question has been answered and the sale has ended because the seller has realised that the frame is in need of repair.
the moral of this story is trust your eyes, just because the seller is known to people and has sold decent bikes in the past it doesn't mean you should trust them on blind faith. this goes for anything at all- don't be sheep!
