Unlike you would expect, i actually moved to Leeds from London...shit happens. anyhow, I was wondering if someone here knows anything about courier firms up in Leeds? I haven't seen any couriers (though i don't go to the center at rush hour much...), but a brief conversation with fellow cyclists led me to understand that there are two existing firm. However, i couldn't find anything about them online, except this archaic looking thing
I've spent most of my life on a bike. I became a professional when I was 8, the year before I broke the world land speed record. After that I coached Lance Armstrong until he was hospitalised, and once his new bionic legs were working properly I moved on to something more useful: providing a vital cycle-based business communications system in the heart of Leeds.
have worked in leeds for last 6 six years but the scene is very small. a few years back there were 5 or 6 riders about but things have dried up same as everywhere else and wages are poor. not sure if other people on this forum think the same but once you are in its hard to leave. the thought of having to work some dead end job in the city after doing this is hard to take plus messengering isnt great cv material. but mostly its thinking you wont get to ride round every day. guess id rather do something i love and just get by than sell my soul for some pinstripes if you want to ride just keep askin round. or move somewhere there is a bigger scene
I know this is a london based zine but there are lots of other cities that have messengers and unlike london many of these are small firms with a hand full of riders. As such there isn't much of a community to the job. i browse the site coz it makes me feel slightly connected to others that go through the same shit that i do. so i send out some love to couriers of London and also to others nationwide
That sounds like a cue to start up the National Union of Cycle Couriers, then we can all go on strike and bring the country to a standstill......erm... ...maybe not.
