Right, I bought a nice new Condor 1" ahead cartridge headset as I always do. But I have a weird dilemma. The crown race that is stamped 26.4 is loose when I place it on the steerer. I have an M-Part Comp here as well that comes with both 26.4 and 27 races. The 26.4 from that fits perfect while the 27 is loose to the exact extent of the Condor one. When you measure them with a steel ruler the Condor comes up as 27 even though is is stamper otherwise. Condor offer no clues but I love these headsets and want to use it. Soooooooooo
Has anyone got spare/old 26.4 crown races knocking around in the tool boxes. I need to find one that will match the condor profile. The M-Part is veryyyyy close but no cigar. If they dont fit you can have em back. Just want to get my hands on some different ones as there must be a match out there. These are cartridge bearing headsets so its not technically a crown race. The ball bearing do not run on the race, it just holds the cartridge in place so the fit is not a important. Anyway if you do have, leta me know ;)
not sure if it works but i've been told by some serious bike mechanics that burring the edge of the fork by smacking it with a hammer and punch can raise enough metal to get a good friction fit. i'd advise against canning it though i have seen it work as well as fail miserably.
