Hmmm. I've got all these old black and white prints of london courierness that I'm musing what the hell to do with. The bulk of them involve ecmc at eastway, but there's a load of duke pics, some a****cat ones (circa human zoo, longest kid etc), an ace one of prettyboy, lbma rides to brighton and a dunwich dynamo too. Oh, and some colour ones of the warriors NY.
It seems wrong that they should stay in the dark forever. I reckon some or all might need a good home but being horribly out of touch I don't know where would be best.
    Any ideas??

Fuck that- you got negs? Have analog photography/cycling nut workmate with darkroom :) on the subject of what memories are made of I found the route notes and guide from the supercow AND went past the old Norwood place last week. Total misty eyed orgy!

Ha! don't you know, going blind is a side effect of all that polish breakfast?
Yes I believe that I have all my negateeves.
  1.
Scan the best negs onto a giant piece of paper, from which you can cut out a Banksy-style stencil, spray paint onto bricks under bridge at Warner street and bottom of Vine Hill. Sticky-back-plastic optional.

btw why did people stop going to the duke?

    ^nice idea.

Smoking banned inside, drinking banned outside followed by a series of police raids...
  2.
Scan them and put them up here? A digital archive of courier history could be established, which would become an important resource for local historians and other nostalgics.
  3.
I have a Flickr Pro account, if you wanted to upload them there (I can copyright protect them up to a point - but the general rule is that if you don't want your intellectual property downloaded from the internet for free, then don't upload them to the internet) and I would be happy to park the scanned negatives somewhere on one of my hard drives - I back up my drives regularly -.

I don't think I could store the originals, at the original resolution, actually on the blog, as I believe that there is probably a limit to what we can put on here, and analogue originals are likely to be run to 100s of mbs, if not gbs.

Cavey, I am liking it, sounds fun...
    However
If I do something with them that involves modern media I'd have to scan them, from prints is better as it'd capture all the tweaks that took place whilst printing them up in the first place. As I'm a bit of a luddite (if you can't sharpen it, melt it or set fire to it these days I'm lost) this would require the help of someone who actually has a scanner, and of course me finding the energy to do the deed. But I'm well up for it if anyone feels like helping out. I have doubles of many of the prints so if any bike shops/coffee mestos/control rooms would like some of em on their walls you're welcome.
  4.
re - scanning to big prints

Somebody from metro should rightly offer to wrangle this for seb for free, given that it's seb and not one of the annual art students/anthropologists*, his photos were way better than all the others - FACT.

    * anthropologists make me nervous, i've never been able to really put my finger on it.

mike, ever get the sense someone's whispering sweet things to you?
    Thankyou!
Cavey, I do hope you meant this to be funny:
"anthropologists make me nervous, i've never been able to really put my finger on it."
'cos I'm still giggling now- inspired.

Seb. got it and we shall swing a jug at some point soon. And I do get the feeling about sweet whispers. So far only confirming and adding to and adding to my recent posts. You know who you are. Really looking forward to this Seb and and I hope the end result will be a good archive/resource of what this job was and could still be. By the way, I've got some photos from Warsaw if you wanna have a look. Not pro style photography but still some characters amongst them. Thought it might be sort of "seasonal" as worlds are in Warsaw in July this year.

Ahhh Seb, you have to get those prints done and shared. I always remember you with that camera glued to your hand. Got a few pic with you in the back ground, squinting through the view finder. There must be some seriously good memories amongst those negs. You inspired me to take up my photography again and now I can always be found with the slr in the bag and a fridge full of bulk rolled film. Keep us posted on the progress of whats happening with them. Im sure people would be interested in sponsoring a mass printout.

It makes sense that Overdrive should offer to help out with some printing. I mean all he does all day is sit in the riders room looking at movingtarget and facebook.

That is partly correct,Zack, but last week was actually busy, had a couple of £100 days but if anybody wants these scans or prints done I can probably get a good deal unless Porno can get them done for free.

    @curly
I didn't realise they were Monty's slippers,I was trying to kiss Grant's feet.

    What's happening is as follows,
most evenings that I'm not utterly fucked by work I'm spending an hour or so sorting through the picture mountain, matching up the doubles and throwing aside the crap ones. I'm getting there, and should soon (week or so) be ready to arrange a time to indulge in some jug swinging (love it) with the excuse of handing over the selected prints...
Still dunno what to do with them when we're done tho...

Oh what a glorious shambles that was. Some bloke ending up in the woods in the north downs, Losing people and having to organize search parties. Nellie getting stressed at the general "let's have a laugh and and a monumental fuck up" attitude. I could go on. Looking forward to see you and photos soon.
