Fucking joke! Working people - real working people! - pay taxes to fund extortionate wages, generous pensions and endless sickies for the parasites in the bloated public sector who are just about immune from "cuts"! Including the edukayshun con! People who're going to work in McDonald's, ride bikes, or become police officers, advertising executives or PR gurus don't fucking need degrees in media studies, the history of fashion or sports science. In the real world, people lose their jobs or have to take seriously reduced salaries. Get some long-haired, grungy, acne-faced student layabouts doing some demonstrating about that. Selfish cunts! Pol Pot had some right good ideas on the subject of bureaucratic classes.
I did a degree in sports science and now I'm going to be the guy researching that as yet uncurable neurodegenerative disorder you pick up from living longer than your body can handle because the environment (/society) that you live in is so cushty.
By the way,how hardcore are these students?"Ooh,lets occupy the Tory central office for 5 mins and then shove a copper around a bit, that'll show 'em". Bunch of clowns, like this lot:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwm1xkExlG4&feature=channel
But that wasn't the point. He didn't like the situation/society/environment etc he was in so did something about it (instead of just bitcing about it) just like these people who aren't liking the situation their going to be in etc so are doing something about it
I'm not saying what they're doing is effective in anyway or is going to make a blind bit of difference at all. Nor am I saying I support what they're doing. All I'm saying is that they are doing something.
The way I read FB was that he was complaining that somehow it was unfair that people's uni courses were subsidised, from his pocket. If he felt so strongly on this issue why would he choose to stay in a place where this travesty continues to occur? Why not move to somewhere where this isn't case such as America etc (I don't know alot about their uni system but from what I gather its pretty expensive and isn't subsidised at all). Instead of whine about real workers paying their taxes to fund higher education.
Personally I'd rather pay for a history fashion course than nuclear missile defence system and the 3rd largest arms expenditure in the world. But hey thats just me and thats also why I'm planning on leaving the UK as quickly as I can.
University education...its a bit of a con. Heres a course, unrelated industry subjects...pay the institute 15 - 25 grand. Great, now I have some fancy paper that looks like a glorified swimming certificate, worth fuck all in the real world, apart from debt, minimal job prospects in a recession raped country, high unemployment (dare I say) overpopulation, goverment greed and the opportunity to live in a crime ridden neighbour hood where goods and services are pricing you out of existance.
And the crime, when did that become acceptable? at what point did we become expendable?
Smashing up tory hq and walking en masse shouting horrible things about a goverment doesnt change anything(except the poll tax ;-P )
This recession does have some positives, hopefully those in beurocratic control who have been implementing these policys are now to face the scrap heap but..... nothing will really change.
