ever seen nuts in may a mike leigh play worth a watch very funny .oh and by the way Dazzler Nuts in May is set in Dorset.Went on a Geography field trip there once (how intresting)
Nuts in May is genious - someone needs to be named Candice Marie on curcuit soon. . .I saw it on a Vic Reeves New Years special in the early nineties when I were a teenager ha ha classic
Nice one Gertie, will be good to have you along old chap.
Curly, we might well see some of your mates down there, this is only 5 miles from Durdle Door so will be sure to give em a wee wave for ya mate! We May give em some Nuts
They sure can. Overnight rides are invariably mixed ability and so we ride as a group where everyone is looked after, no-one is dropped and the pace comfortable for everyone. It's not a race and there's no deadline so there's no big pressure on time. Also we will have a broom wagon (van!) within shouting distance should anyone have major mechanical issues or any other problems.
Just checked the Met Office's web-site and weather for the rest of the week is changeable, so I'm keeping my " I'm not riding in the rain if I'm not getting paid" card in reserve However assuming clemency is on the cards what's the plan Mr Dazzler?
Heh heh, yeah I've been keeping an eye on the weather but it looks like it may well be fair, if it's 23* or so and dry on the day I'll be a happy man..
So all being well we have a nice mixed group of about 10 or so that i know of. Plus we have a broom wagon thanks to Lawrence at Fullcity. That will mean we won't have to carry too much heaviness, clothes, food, etc as we will be able to rendezvous with Lawrence at various points for R&R and he'll be there to help out with any mechanicals too. He'll also be there at the finish so he could carry a change of clothes if you wanted that taken.
I'm loaded up with all my OS maps covering the route and I'll be relying on these to pick out our route. I think we'll follow the Stonehenge route out of London through Chiswick and onto the A30 for just a bit then swoop south where the plan is to take in the B roads for as much as possible, head down towards Winchester then the New Forest, loop over Southampton and cruise into Purbeck finally to Durdle Door.
Timewise I'm thinking leave London at 7:00pm (or later if that's too early for people? - let me know.) It's about the same distance as the Dunwich Dynamo, maybe a few miles longer, not much, and that took us about 12 hours this year at a steady pace in time for a paddle/swim, snooze on the beach then a saunter to the pub for high tea.
The nearest train station back to London is Weymouth, about 10 miles from The Door - I don't plan to book ahead as if it's nice I won't be in a mad rush to get back to London, it's gorgeous down there.
Meeting point - Speakers Corner.
Hope that sounds ok - let me know if there's anything I've missed. I have a spare racer if anyone needs to borrow one, Ephraim and crew I know are doing it fixed, more power to 'em!
This ride is on for anyone who wants to pack up their troubles and get beachside Saturday.
The weather is looking very nice ineed and although a little cooler during the night than a couple of weeks ago it's looking like breakfast in the sun. Yessiree.
Slight adjustment to the leaving time - we'll be leaving Speakers Corner a bit later, 10:00pm, aiming to arrive mid-morning when it's a bit warmer.
We have a broom wagon! - Fullcity have come true to their word and have very kindly arranged to shadow us. Bring a change of clothes (and a towel!) and anything you'd like carried down there, we'll meet the van at Hyde Park Corner. Result :-) Many thanks Lawrence.
A brilliant ride, somehow a little longer than I had worked out, at 154 miles a challenge for any seasoned courier. Was pretty gutted that my knee actually gave out after 100 miles and I had to take advantage of the Broom Wagon for the final stretch but then I've been off the road for a bit and we absolutely hammered that first 100.
The rest of the crew did magnificantly, including the ladies, biggest props tho go to Ephraim who did it fixie no brakes. Erm.. impressive stuff.
Some photos here - batteries on my camera ran out just as we arrived at the beach so no pix of everyone swimming through Durdle Door but that was a particularly life affirming moment. Fresh!
