I think someone put london down for the Global Gutz this year. So i am wondering who is gonna organise it? It is happening globaly on saturday 19th of June. more on www.globalgutz.org I don't mind doing it, but I woul'd rather race. Overall global female and male winner get ticket to CMWC Guatemala 2010
Glad to see someone else thinks these races are impossible to win. The average speeds have gone up so much for the winning cities over the last few years that I'm convinced they are either running their races on velodromes or motorways with drive-by checkpoints.
Last years winner averaged just under 42kp/h for 30.32 minutes. With 5 checkpoints, in traffic, and didn't know the route before the race. Excuse me for being skeptical. It been going this way every year.
I've been running Global Gutz in Dublin for the past 4/5 years and (with the exception of last year where I allowed someone else set the route) we have been getting slightly faster every year. Always the same few guys, who are some of the fastest I have ever raced against.
Take 2008. Winning time 30.59, again just under 42kp/h. Our fastest time was 35.46. And I'll be honest. We cheated. I told the racers the checkpoints at the start of the race, and they didn't have to stop, they just had to make sure the marshal saw them. And our fastest guy was still 5 minutes slower than the winning time? Not possible.
Much as I love the idea and spirit of Global Gutz, I'm bored of organising a race that, as has been pointed out above, there is absolutely no chance in winning unless you completely break and ignore all the rules.
If big prizes are going to be on offer there should be a few more rules. Mandatory submission of route on gmaps to central organisers before the race, and if I remember correctly there used to be a rule that one of the checkpoints had to be city hall? Made it a pain in the ass for us but at least it forced people to actually hold the race in the city.
In case you haven't guessed I've been waiting a year or 2 to get this off my chest. Thanks for listening... I'm still going to organise the fucking thing anyway, cos I'm a muppet.
Agree with you Dubmess. If you look up the resaults from previous years, quite a few cities got DQF. I wonder why? Howhever i am still gonna do it (either race or organise) If organise then i will follow the rules and in central London and post the route to the organisers afterwards.........just cos i am muppet.
PS: I have no illusions that London will place somewhere on the top
Me? G? Indeed... who is hiding behind the Pinarello pen name?
Good luck with the race by the way, almost an impossible city to post a good time in even if you did have superhuman riders, kinda like Dublin, we just can't find 21km that doesn't involve a long slogging climb or shit tons of drunk people and taxis on a Friday/Saturday night.
Do not be disheartened,Pina.I'm sure that with a bit of hard work and determination we can post a decent time.If not, what's wrong with cheating?I've been doing it for years and nobody's batted a eyelid.
Overdrivel! Zoom into whatever level you need then click 'start recording'. Double click on your start point on the map and then just keep double clicking along your route, it will bring you up km or mile markers depending on what way you want it. Set the map to record 'for runners' otherwise the route will try and avoid one-way streets etc. and mess with your route. That's about it. when you're finished hit 'stop recording' and 'save route' and it'll give you a hyperlink that you should email to yourself or something then you've got a saved copy of it.
Haha, excellent Pina, it seemed to be good doping as you were leaping about on stage collecting your Texas Twins prize not long afterwards!
Yes, I have given in a done a course, as usual I think it will be pretty quick, but I fully expect to be severely disappointed by Dublin's time as soon as I see the rest of the results.
Perhaps we can have a 'British and Irish' Gutz? 'Local Gutz'?
Good luck London! It will be tough to get many riders out on a Saturday night, may have to lure them with alcohol.
The Right Honourable Craig Nasty and myself had years ago planned a UK Alleycat series that was to take place in every City that was up for hosting a race with a Grand Final at the end of the year. It would've involved travelling to each city to race and pick up points but it never got past the drunken discussion stage because it was looking like a logistical nightmare. Without wanting to jump on your cake Dubmess ( your post mentions it first so it's your idea/fault ) how about if one City volunteers to hold a Beer Gutz final so the winners of each city win their train fare to the Final and we end up with a UK/EIRE overall Beer Gutz Champion. All be it a Champion with alcohol poisoning, which fits better with the reputation of being too drunk to race that the Couriers from these fair isles have spent years building up.
As I mentioned in a diferrent thread, Global Gutz will be benefitial for Jenky and Christian. As they broke some bones this week! So please make an aperance to support our comrades! I think we'll meet at London Fields around 7pm. The race must start at 9pm sharp! I am getting sponsors together, so there will be some prices as well. I will keep you updated

I had so many prices after all, that everybody won somethink! So you lazy drunk cnuts who didn't race missed out! Huge thanx to BRIXTON CYCLES, THE HEADWRECKER(Irish Wayne), and LCEF and my wardrobe for prices! Also big thanx to the marshals at the checkpoints! I only raised £50 for Janky and Christian, James took £20 and left £30 for Christian, which I gave to Pedro from LCEF for him. It was fuckin stressfull to start the think on time, but it happened! God bless buckfast! I still have a lots of spoke cards left, if anyone would like to buy one, to get more money for the broken bones! And finally big thanx to all the racers! Hope you had a fun! You should be able to check your overall global results tonight on www.globalgutz.org.
And No Pikey, we didn't cheat! I don't give a damn whoever wins this think!
Well done organizing a non-cheating global gutz! Just for notice, Helsinki is absolutely willing and able to expand the audience for the Beer guts. Paavo
