I’ve run this past Bill, and he gave me his permission to post it.
We are producing a series of four films for BBC 1 and the Discovery Channel about the human body. “Human” (working title) will look at the numerous physiological adaptations that have enabled us to succeed as a species.
For one of our films we will explore the various ways the human body responds to danger. As part of this film we would like to shoot a sequence with a London cycle courier, highlighting the dangers of the job and exploring the biology and physiology behind our ability to respond to such danger (things like peripheral vision; adrenaline; reaction times).
Initially we would like undertake a test shoot. To do this we would mount a small camera on your bike and gather footage over the course of a few typical working days.
If this footage is appropriate we would then undertake some additional filming using full-size cameras to complete the sequence. This would involve an interview, and possibly slow-motion and aerial filming.
The ultimate aim is to produce a breathtaking sequence showing the dangers of the job and the skills required to do it; all set against the amazing backdrop of London.
We would be looking to undertake the test shoot over the next few of weeks. The main shoot would then follow in June, July or August.

Make sure you use a rider at a firm like City Sprint or Courier Systems or E-Courier. If the small camera gets nicked while the cyclist is delivering to 155 Bishopsgate, companies like that will have a clause that forces him to pay you three times its value and allows you to use him as a personal slave for the next two years, shag his wife whenever you like over the same period and send his children up any chimneys that need cleaning. You sound as if you ought to work for the BBC... oh... you do. Do you still use CDS at the TV Centre? I think Broadcasting House has switched to City Sprint. I wonder how much the riders at CDS are being paid these days? I'll bet not 5% of them pulled minimum wage last week. Perhaps a programme showcasing the exploitation endemic in the job, set against the amazing backdrop of London's traffic, might be of more interest to licence payers.
The license fee - pah, another tax I have been avoiding. I am happy to pay these taxes off course but as a "self employed" courier who works most days and hours, that aint gonna happen.
maybe you could shoot the film in black and white with dodgy camera angles???
I do it if I get to shag that bird off the one show -oof legs!! But that also means the day after I get to be in the paper as the shame of the nation - but a hero to everyone else (insert lol if you wouldn't mind)
Maybe we could stick a camera up my arse so we could get a decent POV shot as im being raped by the lack of legistration that allows certain companies to shit all over us, all set against the amazing backdrop of London.
We are not in London but we have done this sort of thing before for norwegian TV. If you want to come to Manchester and do it, give us a ring on 07504270436.
The price is £350 per rider per day and we can get you a motorbike rider who has experience of cameramen on the back of his bike for £100 per day.
You're all sad ass wankers. Good luck Alex, hope you get what you want...Toby Wong, does everything in your life boil down to how courier companies treat us? Get a life!
