Ludgate Hill used to be pretty steep before they knocked the railway bridge down, especially on payday going up from the Dynamo office.

@drumbrake: who are you? The Dynamo office on Fleet St, the Ludgate Hill Bridge? Tell 'em all about the Guardian/Dynamo bags - they won't believe you.
You're too old my man - possibly even older than me....

How did the bridge make it steeper? I have not seen it myself but I found a (very) old picture and it looks the same.

but I dont see either how the bridge makes it steeper?

I was tempted to put a couple Anchorage streets but the steep bits only run a half block to almost a block. It's the usually covered in ice for most of the winter part that makes them a pain.

Yes, how did the bridge make it steeper? Nice super-old-school reference though.

There aren't any really steep hills in London, although I did manage to damage my achilles shoving 52-18 up Percy Circus when I was a stupid kid.

Dynamo? Blimey, that takes me back, first company I ever worked for! I remember riding down Old Bailey the wrong way every Friday from Metro (back in the day when they used Dynamo and Olympic contract riders instead of having their own) to collect my wages ;-) Can still remember their Tel' no. 583 4313. Don't suppose these young wipper-snappers ever had to start work 'on the phones' ;-)

What kind of fool finds the steepest street in the world and decides to go UP it? I'd be bombing that muthafucka all day long

(Probably says quite a lot about my work ethic/views on life)

Steeper in my memory cos the road had to be lower under the bridge to allow big trucks to pass under it, and so it had less distance to make the final part up to St Pauls - so steeper gradient. Maybe just my crappy bike and being tired on a Friday night though.

Dynamo bags - I think my dad still has mine - keeps tools in it. Rubbish for keeping anything dry on a rainy day though. But got some nice Tshirts and sweatshirts from them. Dynamo were a small and well run company in the early days. Was a good training ground. Then they had controller probs and an accountant from Arrow got sent there. Downhill from then and finally ended up as Courier Systems?

You'd still have to get back up it every now and then, surely.

Well yeah but by the looks of that video you would be able to walk your bike up it faster and with less effort than spinning a tiny gear and weaving all over the road.
