What an earth do you mean 'the semantics of dead couriers' ? There is nothing to interpret, when they die, by any means, it is gutting.

Since it's semantics we're speaking here, I have to rectify you Nhattattack - it's that you shouldn't mourn your lost friends and colleagues. I said I disagree with a typical convention which goes like that: Someone died. Someone who knew him/her mourns. Then someone who knew someone who knew the person that died, mourns. Then after a few repetitions someone who had no clue who that person was expresses their condolences and so on. I believe it's untrue. I have a different attitude towards death, ok? Whenever I get on my motorbike I have a picture of Death looking at me with a smile while sharpening her Scythe at the same time. And I know that if I fuck up too much on the road, my colleagues from school who haven't stayed in touch for decade might appear on my funeral and might 'mourn'. Fuck off, that's not mourning.

On a different note - this Phil - he took his own life, it's not that someone killed him, right? Noone from here knew him, noone knew what he was thinking about, what his lifestyle was? He was a hardworking guy, that's all that can be told for sure. So who can guarantee with his head that: a) he hadn't killed anyone, b) he hadn't raped anyone, he hadn't done anything largely unlawful and it's his sense of justice to repay in that way? I doubt it is the case, but it could be. So since we've got freedom of speech you can respect Death and mourn people taken by it, be it known or unknown to you, I can choose to laugh at it and it's only the fact that we have been brought up in the culture of mourning after death that justifies you asking me to remove my comment from the 'sad' thread. Be it the other way round, would we celebrate the death as the unavoidable-end-of-it-all in a 'happier' way and people would ask you not to send your condolences whenever someone died, right?

    Me

Ps. didn't notice this thread exists twice so unless we agree which one to delete I'm pasting this into both!

And re- editing the other thread - that would mean I disagree with what I've said there...

maurycy- it's really funny how you can say:

"it's that you shouldn't mourn your lost friends and colleagues."

and yet you came on the memorial ride.

it's even funnier how i passed you a bottle of whisky while mourning a friend who was killed on the road at the exact spot where it happened. why didn't you tell us not to bother and that we shouldn't have done it right there and then, then we could have told why we do it. perhaps you find real world interaction difficult, that would explain (at least partly) why you are not part of this community.

people who are silent in the real world but enjoy trolling internet boards don't have the facilities to get laid: FACT! hence you are never going to have that family of yours to protect. i will tell you this to your face on friday at the foundry if you have a pair.

we both know you are an internet eunarch.

    kindly fuck off.

Your speculation about Phil's suicide is both glib and trite.

People generally kill themselves because they can see no point in living, ie that they find themselves in a place so dark that they can't remember what it was like to be in the light, or even that there is light.

I am unlucky enough to have read a suicide note (the guy went and laid down on the main-line from Kings X), and I can tell you that it filled me with me with despair, being, as it was, clearly the words of an otherwise utterly blameless person, probably one of the nicest guys I have ever met, who made more of a contribution to global peace and understanding in his short life, than I have made in the 20 odd years since he died, whose mind was unbalanced, and who, tragically, saw no other way out of his troubles other than to take his own life.

In light of Charlie's suicide, and what I know of Donkey's, I would conclude that Phil's was borne of the same desperation.

Your suggestion, whilst not entirely out of the realms of possibility, and so cannot be discounted, is not something that most of us would bother posting here.

I can only agree with what sleeps has posted above.

Maury, you have a right to your opnion, but I was assuming that you were adult enough to realize there is a time and a place for it. This is the time and place, the other thread isn't. It's very simple.

My ex-boyfriend died of a heroin over dose, and many of us belive it was suicide. The last time I saw him we were drunkenly kissing in the streets, then their was no next time.

This destroyed my life. Have some respect for other peoples feelings, let's debate things that are up for debate in that environment and leave the places where people go to remember to remembering.

i just had a fairly mind rocking realisation. since i started courierenging in 2003 (yes, i know i'm an exenger now but wouldn't be if warren picked up the feckin phone) there has been one death on the road yet i know of three suicides.

all of them are a fucking tragedy: at the very least young and able, the two i was aquainted with funny, kind, handsome (i ain't gay or nuffin, but you know what i mean ) and a pleasure to be around. they were mourned because they were a loss and that is how people deal with loss.

when people ask them if we're scared of being killed in a road accident should we tell them this?

    @ maurycy

Whenever you next grace the Foundry with your presence, it wont be the lack of facilities you "mourn". Perhaps the loss of your face will make you refrain from posting here again.
  7.
I don't understand why you bothered posting in the first place other than to boost your own ego.

Someone died, and some people care. If you don't care because it's nothing to do with you, then fair enough, but in that case, why not stay out of it? Why criticise the people who do care? Why do you think your opinion on life and death is so valuable that you needed to post it on that particular type of thread?

Please, enlighten me. You are obviously intellectually superior to everyone else on this forum, so come on, make it clear why you need to confront people about the fact that they are saddened by the fact that someone has died.

zerofivezero: get a life and note that our grandfathers fought for freedom of speech, okay?

Brummie: come on, Internet fora mainly exist to SCOFF! Whateever is written on the Internet should be divided by 8192 to get at least half of the truth.

No I am not mentally superior, but I find as much sense in notifying people that I don't care as in you posting that you do care.
