This is where we confer about distinction between fixed gear and fixed wheel, pb job and mb job, rain and drizzle, real jobs and couriering, Holborn and High Holborn. To figure out whether Mercyful Fate should be classified as heavy metal or black metal and how old Scott Columbus is go there-http://www.metalthrone.net/forum/
Did you see that some online metal forums are really upset about the metal race? I think they feel like it makes them the subcultural lowest common denominator....
Well, Metal Heads from new jersey who listen to country and ride fixed are a special breed, you might say an insect that you just can't classify. Sometimes it's easier to return it to it's natural habitat and shake your head.
Without wanting to generalise in any way, all metal is reactionary, bigoted, sexist crap, played by people too musically incompetent to play jazz and/or too politically ignorant too play punk.
I have to argue with you Gertie. Apart of the fact that metal and punk overlapped in many ways BOTH musically and lyrically, there were whole genres of music mixing metal music with political verbal message that punk was/is all about. Its grind core and crossover im talking about. I could bombard you with names of metal bands that didn't scream about reactionary, sexist and bigoted crap.I won't do that. Just couple of examples: american grind core band Terrorizer had pretty good lyrics(socio-political shall we call them), despite having co-memebers of death metal Morbid Angel that could definitely be described as a sexist band. Scottish punk band The Exploited was/is well dodgy,to the extend that they used neo nazis as security at their gigs in germany in late 90s. Screwdriver started as a punk band. That doesn't make them not reactionary, not sexist and not bigoted...
Saxon were the 2nd band I ever saw live - and it was on the 'wheels of steel' tour. Or was it the 'Denim and Leather' tour? So long ago I can't remember.
Saxon were never sexist. Surely? And I particularly liked their earlier free jazz experimental phase, but Barnsley just wasnt ready for their avant garde minimalism.
B Bill - "Saxon were the 2nd band I ever saw live" B Bill - "Shit, do people still listen to metal?"
Bill you are a bandwagon jumping hipster, if enough people tell you to you'll probably go back to hating fakengers like you did when you couriered for that one summer in 1987.
i thought i'd spare it a thread of it's own on this one, this is run by a creative controller after all, if he wants to show off what goes on in his office then he can put it on the main page.
