well, what weally ... sorry can't do this jonathan ross bolloks :fierce:

it's quite easy to completely miss whispered messages if you're aren't logged in and looking at the thread, with "proper" private messages they are pretty much unmissable.

@sleepy: definitely doable, though I've never played with vanilla. I might stick a test install up somewhere if I get time. Depends a lot on who hosts this place and how willing they are to hack their installation about.

    erm..

    proper private message = email
ignore = avoid reading that bit/user

There is a whisper notification function, you can turn it on in your account preferences.

Vanilla has architecture for plug-in's, no need to hack the installation.

Yeah - I got it up and running last night. Neither of the privmsg add-ons have been updated in a while though, so one would want to be sure they've not been abandoned by their authors. By "hack about" I meant "change in any particular from its current working configuration" BTW - I'm way too much of a cynic to believe nothing will break just because the change is packaged ;-)

    okay 1/2 aint bad.

"ignore = avoid reading that bit/user"

i'm a compulsive reader/poster. there are 2 users whose posts denigrate the forum and often create threads that spawn pointless arguments, with an ignore function these trolls don't get the attention they crave. it works on other forums i'm on

Sleeps, is this forum really so busy that it necessitates more functions than it already offers?
