got cut up by a driver coming towards me and turning right in front of me without looking. bashed into the back end of the car, didn't notice any damage, carried on , thought nothing of it. carried on till the end of the road, stopped at the junction, waiting to turn right and then BOSH i'm on the floor. the cunt had come round to look for me, and when he found me, instead of saying "excuse me, i didnt see you earlier when i cut you off, so i apologise, but you bumped into my car and caused some damage" he decided to knock me off my bike instead. fucking cunt.
i get up, go up to his window but he wont wind it down. he picks up something black that looks like either a telescopic baton or a can of cs gas, so i move away sharpish. he drives off. cunt!
despite having a witness to him assaulting me with his car, the police dont want to know, 'cause there's no 'hard evidence' (i.e. cctv); also he says he knocked me off by accident and that after he knocked me down i threatened him!?
I'd be very tempted (having got your witness onside) to put your complaint to the police in writing. Hoping you just go away and save them some work is par for the course, but I wonder if the prospect of admitting to it in writing might motivate them to rethink. And where in a British city centre is there no CCTV anyway?
The number of drivers that purposefully carry a weapon somewhere it's handy in a car is truly shocking. Sorry to hear that you got the wrong end of this. Like OD says, I wouldn't go looking for him without deleting the comments you made - try finding a more sympathetic cop or a lawyer.
"And where in a British city centre is there no CCTV anyway?"
Trust me, I checked, there's none anywhere near where it happened :(
I'm gonna contact that OPLaw solicitor thing on the main page, to get some advice. I'm not after money I just think it's unacceptable that someone can get away with purposely running someone down with a car.
Basically when I smacked into his car as a result of him cutting me up, he told the cops that I kicked his rear panel in on purpose, when in fact I pulled my brake and panicked and and stuck my foot out in anticipation of a crash, as I was going at about 17mph downhill.
ANd when I picked myself up off the floor after he chased me down and knocked me off, I had my lock in my hand (not waving it or anything), which is apparently why he drove off, because he felt 'threatened'
I wonder, like me, if he'll now be frightened as he's driving around, thinking "oh god, that terrifying, menacing cyclist is going to bash my brains in, i hope he doesn't come across me again, i'd better watch my back!".
If only I was a real person and not just one of Iron Eye's many fantasies, he could phone me up and send me on a 'job'. Sadly I am just a figment of his imagination thus I am limited to singing and writing rhymes. Oh well.
"One driver. One bullet" semi-seriously though, Anyone who's been a courier for more than. say, 5 years should be given a hand-gun by the state, all cyclists( couriers or otherwise) avoid motor vehicles because we know that if we don't we could end up in A&E or the morgue, if drivers lived in fear of us as we do of them then things would be a lot chuffing safer.
i agree with steff: make a complaint to the police in writing and try to get your witness to do so too. at the very least, see if you can get them to sign a letter you have written on their behalf. (get's around other people's laziness.)
even if they fob you off, at least it is on record that you know they are fobbing you off.
If fobbing off is not quite satisfactory, I have found that running the key to your lock down the side of the bastard's car helps to releive the rage, provided you can slip down a nearby one way system...
One of my rules for bastard drivers. Always get the plate. I've had people try to run me off the road and I've ridden up behind them smiled and read their plate number back at them. They're usually better behaved the next time. Also try not to reach for the lock until they start reaching for something. In my head I have a prepared speech. "Officer he threatened me and then made a furitive move as if he were going for a gun or weapon, I was in fear for my life. That's why I....." I've never had to use that one, I learned one like it when I worked door at a bar and I was told it worked wonders. Hope that helps.
In the past I have learnt (actually in theory I know, but in practice I haven't learnt) the hard way that retaliation is a very bad idea.
Sometimes though you just see red when someone does something negligent, stupid, arrogant or just plain dangerous. It is incredibly frustrating, especially when you let it go and spend the next 30 minutes calming down and telling yourself 'you did the right thing' and 'at least you didn't get hit'. While a righteous exactation of revenge might feel good, it will probably get you beaten up, run over or arrested...
I got revenge by 'accident' a couple of times. For example this woman the other day just pulls out of a multistorey car park onto a one-way street without looking. It was raining. I saw the front of the bonnet emerge from the car park entrance, and I had plenty of time to react and slow down, and I watched the car come out, and as soon as the actual woman's head was visible I looked straight at her face, except I couldn't see it because it was pointing the other way. Yes, she didn't even take one little glance to see if anything was coming. I thought, 'How can anyone be that stupid, and have a driving license?'. No, that shouldn't be allowed. I am going to teach this person a lesson. I am not going to bother pulling my brake to avoid the accident that she has potentially caused, I am going to continue at my current speed, ride straight into her car, ensuring that the full force of my momentum connects with her wing mirror. Oh dear, sorry love but you pulled out without looking, and it's raining so I couldn't stop without skidding and possibly losing control and falling off, I tried to go around you instead, but alas I have failed'. But that kind of thing is obviously the wrong thing to do, two wrongs don't make a right, and besides, it's potentially more dangerous for you, so it is pretty dumb... .
Sorry I was kind of in a hurry when I posted that. I should have said if your cornered. You really should avoid getting in a confrontation with someone in a car they may be better armed then you with say, a car for one. Heck even if I packed a Heckler & Koch P7 like Bad Man I wouldn't want to fight a car. Then,Also try not to reach for the lock until they start reaching for something. In my head I have a prepared speech. "Officer he threatened me and then made a furitive move as if he were going for a gun or weapon, I was in fear for my life. That's why I.....I will answer any questions you have after I have the chance to speak to an attorney" I've never had to use that one, I learned one like it when I worked door at a bar and I was told it worked wonders. Hope that helps. That's either mistake of fact self-defense if he's not going for a weapon or actual self-defense if he was. Anyway, that's what one should do if forced to at least in Alaska. Anyway need to get away from the computer, like I have a job or something. Now that I'm back one more thing fleeing is the best defense. If a confrontation can not be avoided do what you need to do survive.
^ My controller tried that with a driver that cut up his wife while cycling, the driver realised his intent and covered the ignition with his hand... He had his Ray Bans whipped from his top pocket instead
" i'm sure i read a story on here of a guy that reached inside of a car and stole the keys from the ignition when he got done a wrong "
saw this happen, was a cabbie shoutin out one window at someone, and a next cyclist turned off his engine and chucked the keys in a bush. fucking brilliant.
