It may have taken a spurious puncture or two but I managed to catch all of today's action. Much better live, and well grateful were I that in a pub you can't hear the absolutely atrocious commentary by BBCorp. Feck's sake, hire some cnut who disnae l refer to a trackstand thus: "They've come to another standstill... They're doing another standstill which i don't really like.... make's the race boring and I for one don't see the point..."
Oh, and it appears "I'm the fastest in the world"-Cavendish will be one of the few (only?) brits* to head homewards medal-less.
Glasgow Veledrome will now be named after Sir Chris.
And wasn't Victoria only gorgeous?
* Is an Isle of Manxonian officially British or from some tax-haven fiction?
An absolute joy to watch (including the Pendleton) Majority of British golds from cycling Shame Cav didnt get a medal, I suppose setting British cycling history in Le Tour makes up for it...
first of all, hugh porters commentary is ace, when he's actually watching the race. He ain't no david duffield, but then who (apart from duffers) is? Quoting oscar wilde when talking about Bradley wiggins? Genius.
If you had actually watched the madison where 'I'm the fastest' Mark Cavendish was racing you would have realised that they were so heavily marked they had no chance. no point trying to take a lap on the field if the entire field follows you. Thats the problem with being world champions and hot favourites. Cav has nothing to be ashamed of.
Yes we all love Chris and Brad, and we all REALLY love Victoria and Rebecca, but for me the revelation has been Jason Kenny. He will be an even more serious challenger come 2012. and Steven Burke, who came up with a bronze on very short notice.
Well done everyone. keep up the good work and stay on the back pages, Its what cycling needs.
Hugh Porter is an ace commentator, he's tries to convert his huge track knowledge (he is a four times world pursuit champion after all ) into layman's terms....which is exactly right for the BBC....and the term "standstills" is quite common in track circles instead of trackstands...he is also entitled to his opinion on them...fair enough, the main reason they are restricted in championships is so the huge program of events doesn't over-run, they're pretty common in the sixes, but that's mostly showboating and conversely is probably factored in to the program....
Mark and Brad came nowhere in the Madison because they were marked out of it....and strangely the teams who were marking them (the other favourites) also came nowhere, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland...purely because they put too much effort in to neutralising the Brits....it's THE most tactical race and tough to follow.
did I mention Chris Hoy and other olympic stars will be trying Rollapaluza in Manchester soon...?
Mister Hoy yuh are a fast sprintah, But you cant beat de Bad Man upon de rollah! Yuh win nuff medal, up inna China Three times gold, champion ridah... Now yuh try yuh luck inna Manchestah But if yuh try test de Bad Man, yuh get slaughtah! Bad Man is fast, no-one can test me; Me step pon de bike, murder everybody. M by C squared, dat equal E, Me spin gears so fast, mass becomes energy. De cranks disappear and transform into light; Yuh nah go see a faster half kilometre tonight!
I have actually been planning to kidnap Victoria Pendleton for a long while now, so I can roast her legs and eat them. There'd be enough meat to last me a couple of weeks.
Hoy's legs are meatier but I am not sure whether it's gay to eat men's body parts or not. Not that I have anything against being gay, but if my controllers found out that I ate part of a man, they'd ridicule me forever. They already know about the whole cannibalism thing though; they're ok with that.
"And wasn't Victoria only gorgeous?" Hey if she was only gorgeous she'd just be in bleeding Vague. It's the fact that she's THE BEST FECKING FEMALE TRACK CYCLIST IN THE WHOLE FECKING WORLD that makes her so wonderful, and I won't deny it, desirable. Did anyone else hear Emma Pooley interviewed after her Silver? "I just love riding my road bike and can't understand why everyone doesn't ride them" Go Emma
What a hornet's nest I appear to have stirred up. Excellent! It was starting to read like Yehuda Moon's comment board in here.
Gertie dearest, I agree with everything you shouted, which is why I didn't refer to her admittedly pretty features, but commented on her poetry of motion, gliding swanlike past allcomers. Pity she hadn't the chance for more medals like the men. Still, long way from 400m on grass at Fordham.
And aye, well said Emma, hopefully the Hoy effect will get more Edinbuggers out into the rain too.
AAS for Hugh Porter, I'd no idea as to his credentials as the closest I get to a track is the odd SpeedsKillSausages and watching only the big races for mibbe 3 years. I'll retract complaints about his terminology (cheers Winston) and agree to differ on opinions of tactics, but I still feel he might be past it. He missed so much of what we were watching unless he was being fed a different video stream. It was himself that needed 4 replays to cop on to a crash in this morning's BMX wasn't it? OK, OK, not his discipline and he did seem to be flying solo, but he still grates on my ears like tarmac at high speed.
As for wee Cav, I'm sure he's well chuffed with doubling the previous british best for TdF stage wins. I've still not caught the Madison so I'm not having a go at him, I just find it Ironic that he'll be one of your few cyclists to go home without a wee bouquet. Pity for Shanaze too.
Anyway, hope you're all having a rare oul time at London's Calling and to see ye all soon. Raise a glass to me and a whiskey to Ronnie Drew.
