why would you want a front rack like that?

looks like a cetma...very expensive for a few bits of mild steel welded together....

get a metalwork student to make one for you...near identical and modifiable racks can be seen on nearly every other Dutch bike...will prob cost next to nothing.

I believe cardboard is generally reckoned to be the best material for racks, front or back

    paper mache is better

and you're right winston $100 is a right rip off!!!!

sleepy, the reason I would want a front like that is to strap a crate to it and put the shopping in.

IMO attaching loads- particularly large ones ie. shopping- is a bad idea as the weight can have a dramatic effect on the steering and balance of your bike. the butchers bike type rack where the weight is isolated from the steering is a much better bet if you want to carry heavy loads, alternatively a rear basket fitting onto a pannier rack would be a possibility.

well i have rear rack fittings on my frame cos its a commuter bike, so i suppose i could do that... but someone (on here?) led me to believe that it was better to have the load at the front of the bike...

I think Sleepy means at the front of the bike but mounted on frame not forks, like the photo in rack or basket thread, I don't know if anyone makes baskets that mount like that without frame braze ons.
