I can't say I'm any more disappointed or pissed off than I was when I heard that he was killed, because I knew the driver would get a slap on the wrist.
I doubt any of that £500 fine will end up anywhere near the Braveheart fund...
Looks like they're still blaming the victim too:
"Defence solicitor Craig Wood... claimed the cyclist was not wearing high-visibility clothing and was in a "hunkered down" position, making his body size very small."
damn right, i think the worst bit is that he only got banned for 6 months, i thinkk thats pretty disgraceful. as for that defence, what the fuck! i mean if thats what gets u off killin someone i'm shocked, but at the same time not surpised.
does anyone know if its just this country that seems to favour the motorst in almost every case, or is it the same everywhere? I've heard things are even worse n australia, but thats just hear say.
It's pretty much the same here. I had a guy try to run me over once not that long ago and I'm thinking if he came at me like that with a baseball bat and I shot him, no problem. I do it now, I'd have to call in every favor I'm owed by criminal defense Atty.'s and I might beat the charges. BTW Gertie "one driver. one bullet." makes a great slogan but if it comes up you want to fire "double taps" the first bullet punches through the window the second hits the driver. http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/thebuickotruth.htm Anyway, that just sucks and my heart goes out to the victims friends and family.
that was the slogan on a t-shirt produced by hideous white noise, the zine of my esteemed colleague Derek Chadbourne. Some found it in poor taste. I bought the shirt.
My advise was of course a sad attempt at bringing lightness to a sad event. I would never advocate that anyone break the law. That said I do live in Alaska where we can carry firearms and sad to say I've given serious thought towards having to shoot at someone in a car do defend my life or the lives of others. Sadly work (going in and out of courthouses and other no gun zones) and hobbies (hanging out in bars another big no no for carrying) preclude packing anything on a regular basis. Now if I retire and quit drinking................
One of the reason I support G.B. rather than U.S. style gun laws is exactly because if I could carry a gun at work I would have shot someone by now! Though probably not killed them as I didn't know about this whole double-tap malarky, thanks for the info there KIrk- hope I don't have to keep it in mind. Knew I was quoting HWN, should've credited thanks for doing that Bill
