Nomination for Muppet of the Year
11.06.08 by Buffalo Bill

So you are standing by in a park. The sun is shining. It’s a good day to be a bicycle messenger.

A passer-by asks if they can borrow your bike to go get some beer. You agree, and give them a tenner for some beer for you. The passer-by says thanks, mounts your steed and disappears around the corner. You wait. And wait. And wait.

Nominated by Wookie.

  1. burp, eh?

  5. No way i am telling you; he doesn’t contribute to this site. He is though one of the best couriers around, a lovely man and a pleasure to work with and he has been able to laugh at himself over this. The guy is no muppet, he’s a hero of mine.

  8. I know a circuit Judge who fell for a similar trick.

A kind passerby stopped to help him fix his car outside his house, and proposed that he would take it to a garage of a friend to get it fixed and that he would need £50 for his and his friend’s trouble.

Then, as above he disappears with car and money.

It sounds like an urban legend, but I know his daughter, my Dad knows the Judge professionally and knew of this story independently to me being told it.

The scariest thing is this man sends people to prison!

So if you ever find yourself in front of the beak and his name is Hornby – be afraid, or appear trustworthy and he will let you off!

  9. What the fuck… how could anyone in the entire world fall for that? Was he high on large quantities of various intoxicants?

  12. This did not happen.
Cycle couriers might be thick, but they’re not that thick.
It might be quiet at the mo, but it isn’t so quiet that anyone could have smoked enough skunk to fall for that.
And a tenner for beer? Who the hell carries eight tinnies around in their bag all day?
    This is bullshit.
Names, please…..or stop winding us up.
