Absolutely no doubt about this one. Yes, whoever it was at TNT that lost the two discs containing all the details, including, in some cases, bank account details, of the recipients of child support benefit. You munter. Perhaps we can also have a good laugh at whichever idiot decided it was a good idea to consign such important data to ordinary consolidated delivery. Or even the moron that thought it would be a good idea to privatise government postal deliveries in the first place.
TNT, we love you. MT readers with incredibly long memories will recall that it was a TNT owned lorry that killed London bicycle messenger Edward Newstead. Those with even longer memories will recall that TNT were Rupert Murdoch’s carrier of choice when he needed someone to break the print union picket lines in the early 80s.
TNT says it has no idea whether it really did have, and has in fact lost, the parcel. Well, yeah, that’s why it’s called unregistered mail. As a statement of the bleeding obvious, this is up there with ‘oi mate, your back wheel’s going round’.
Of course we know that even ‘track and trace’ parcels get lost all the time. I recalled Security Despatch’s experience of losing a very important parcel in an earlier post. So I suppose we ought not to enjoy ourselves too much at someone’s expense and misfortune.
