Highway Code changed!

As you may remember, those nice men at the ministry had decided to insert a clause into the Highway Code recommending that cyclists use cycle routes and cycle facilities…wherever possible, as they can make your journey safer.
Following a high-profile campaign from CTC [and Moving Target!], the Government has agreed to amend the Highway Code to improve cyclists’ safety and to encourage drivers to take more care around vulnerable road users.In total over 40 rules have been changed to the benefit of cyclists.
The new version makes clear that cyclists have every right to cycle on the road. Rules 61 and 63 state that cycle lanes and cycle facilities, are “not compulsory” and the decision to use them “will depend on your experience and skills”.

I left a comment on an official website regarding cycling and explained my opinion on cycle lanes. That being that i reccomend not to use them as they are dangerous. Motorists ignore them which is dangerous if a commuter is lulled into a false sense of security. They just stop in random places and quite often aren’t clearly marked leading to motorists cutting accross them. My comment wasn’t printed. Hopefully Bill will be more considerate.

I just read the link to a past article and it seems everything i just said is a repeat of a past article. Oh well. Jono just informed me local councils spend the last of their unused budgets on cycle lanes so they dont lose funds on their next budget. The money would be better spent digging potholes and showering broken glass from a gritter.

what are you all moaning about? when the council lavishes such amazing cycle lanes on us it should be a rule that we use them. i mean seriously, check this one:
