Ephraim - out of hospital
3.04.08 by Buffalo Bill

Me and Selim popped down to see Ephraim, who, as you will all remember, was one of two London bicycle messengers injured by collisions with lorries in the same day, back in March. Ephraim was badly injured, and spent 24 days in hospital, but I am happy to say that he is out and on the way back.

He can walk, but it will be a while before he can ride again, so he was delighted and grateful to receive some of the money that was donated by London bicycle messengers and many Moving Target readers.

I will write up his account of the collision that damaged his leg shortly, but I want to clear up a couple of things.

Rumours had Effri running a light and then getting hit. Other rumours had Effri jumping off the pavement and then getting hit. I am not going to lie, and say that Effri has never done either of those things, but I can tell you that Effri was hit by the lorry through absolutely no fault of his own, and appears not to have contributed to the collision at all. Unless you count riding a bicycle down a straight road as ‘contributing’. The lorry was not making a left turn either, in case any of you had that as your third option.

More on the London messenger emergency fund.

Ephraim’s own account of the crash is here.

  1. hopefuly we’ll see You on the road soon. all the best!

  4. We often used to see Ephraim cycling past Bloomberg in Finsbury Square. Didn’t know his name but knew who he was as soon as the description went out. Don’t think he was/is the most stylish cyclist ever to hit London , but he was ( and this is no pun) unmissable. very relieved to hear he is on the way to recovery.

  9. Fucking hell. I’m very glad to know that both those guys are still alive and able to use their legs. I don’t believe in god, but he/she must have been looking out for them that morning.
